The calibration of tanks intended for the storage and transportation of petroleum products is carried out in order to be able to control the tanks. Thanks to the calibration of the tanks for oil products, the oil products placed on the territory of the enterprise are accounted for.

Before carrying out the calibration, the volume of the required tank is determined, its calibration table is drawn up. In the case of long-term use of the tank, it should be thoroughly cleaned before the necessary measurements are taken.

Methods of calibrating tanks for petroleum products

Calibration of tanks for oil products is carried out in one of two ways: geometric and volumetric. The latter is the most accurate, because in the course of its implementation, the possible effect of many factors on the deformation of the container and the change in its dimensions is taken into account.

Volumetric calibration is carried out at gas stations for fuel tanks, horizontal containers of fuel and lubricants, and vertical containers at oil depots. Calibration of containers by volumetric method occurs with the help of special software and measurement complexes. Transportable laboratories are used to carry out measurements.

The geometric method is suitable for calibrating tanks of a cylindrical shape, regardless of their execution (vertical, horizontal), reinforced concrete tanks, containers located and belonging to technological and main oil pipelines.

Automated process control significantly speeds up the process, reducing downtime. Carrying out the calibration of the tanks facilitates the following necessary control of the amount of petroleum products placed in the tanks.

The main purpose of calibration is to control the internal accounting of oil refining products. In order to determine the amount of petroleum product placed in the tank, the necessary measure of calibration of each container is carried out with the mandatory application of a calibration table with a step of one centimeter.
